Nieuport 21 is a modernized version of the Nieuport 17 aircraft, used on a small scale in France, American and British aviation and on a large scale in Russia, where it was produced under license. It had the same engine as its predecessor, but produced less power. It featured enlarged wings and a generally reinforced structure. The machine was very maneuverable, but the lower wings tended to break off under very heavy loads such as quilting. He served in Russia both during World War I and during the Civil War.
